I enjoy creating engaging visual experiences through the use of color, pattern, texture, and scale and would describe my design aesthetic as playful, fresh, and cheerful. Design is human-centered and it’s important to integrate your style while also considering your audience.
Objects that are unusual or not in their natural/usual form inspire my aesthetic. I tend to gravitate towards organic and flowy shapes. I also like unique and eye-catching packaging, album covers, music, and nature.
I think I was a sophomore in high school when I started to notice design around me. There was a logo on a storefront that was really poorly designed and it was super noticeable. It made me think about how important design is, especially in business, because I would not be drawn to that specific store.
I define interaction design as design that allows users to interact with a system or product. It creates a unique experience and relationship between the user and the design.
Looking through the websites on Laurel’s Are.na was the last time I saw digital design that surprised me. It’s interesting to see how designers build websites for people to interact with.
When designing for a print product, you know the outcome is going to be flat, stagnant, and users won’t really be able to interact with it. When designing a digital product, it gives you an opportunity to interact with users.
UX/UI obviously means user experience/ user interface. To me, this means creating quality experiences through an interface that people can interact with. It’s the relationship between the user and the thing they are using.
Although I’m kind of scared to code, I think it will be really interesting and helpful to learn. I want to be well-rounded in design and I think learning how to code a little will further my understanding of design.
